Services - Adobe Software Products

Adobe markets a variety of software products for the desktop. Some of the more popular ones in use at Tufts are Acrobat, Photoshop, Framemaker and Illustrator.

License Term

The term of the software license is perpetual for the purchased version of the software.

License Codes

Once the license is acquired, Adobe will send the purchaser the license codes.

Platform(s)

Adobe products are available for both the Windows and the Macintosh platforms.

Maintenance, Fixes

Software maintenance can be purchased separately at the time the license is purchased.

Versions, Upgrades and New Releases

License holders are only permitted to run the version of the software which was purchased. Existing users of Adobe products may purchase upgrades as new versions are released, provided Adobe makes the upgrade generally available.

Type of Purchase

Tufts University is part of two consortiums, the Massachusetts Higher Education Consortium (MHEC) and the Northeast Regional Computing Program (NERCOMP). Each of these consortiums maintains a contract with Adobe. The contracts offer consortium members high volume discounts on Adobe products. Because Tufts is a member of both consortiums, Tufts’ faculty and staff may make purchases under these consortiums’ high volume contracts.

To take advantage of the discounted pricing, purchases MUST be made with specific software resellers - CDW-G in the case of the MHEC agreement and SHI in the case of the NERCOMP agreement. Since these resellers’ prices may differ, we recommend obtaining quotes from both resellers for large purchases or higher-priced items. (Reseller contact information is provided below.)

Authorized Use (Subject to change at any time.)

  1. The software may be purchased by University faculty or staff for installation and use on computers owned or controlled by Tufts University. This includes computer lab machines.

  2. A faculty or staff member holding a license for an Adobe software product may install the software on a home computer, provided that the software is never being used on both the home computer and the Tufts computer simultaneously.

  3. With the exception of a single back-up copy, Adobe does not permit their software media to be duplicated. Therefore, we recommend that individuals purchase media when they purchase their license.
