Accessing Emerald

There are many different computers on the Tufts networks, and a number of ways to access Emerald from them. The most common application used is the Tufts custom implementation of SecureCRT, which has session connections preconfigured for access to emerald and several other servers. Click here to learn more about SecureCRT.

Accessing Emerald from campus computer labs

Most computers in the Medford campus computer labs, including the Jackson, Mark, and Eaton labs, use an Ethernet network connection, allowing you fast and easy access to Emerald. Please consult a lab assistant for the best way to connect to your account in a particular lab.

Please note that in many labs, students using machines for course work have priority.

Keeping up to date with Emerald

From time to time, UIT needs to change how Emerald and its services work, or take Emerald off-line for maintenance. Announcements of these activities are made in the Message of the Day. You will automatically see things that are posted as Messages of the Day when you log in to Emerald.

We expect that Emerald users will read these bulletins, as these are our only effective means of informing you of important announcements. It is your responsibility to pay attention to them.

Logging out of Emerald

To log out of Emerald, type logout at the emerald:~> prompt. If you were using a modem to login to Emerald, you will be returned to the local> prompt. Typing logout again will disconnect your modem.
