Software Licensing - ESRI

A Geographic Information System (GIS) permits users to combine layers of information about a place referenced by spatial or geographic coordinates and create customized maps. ESRI produces GIS software that includes a database system with specific capabilities for storing spatially referenced data and a set of analysis and display tools.

ESRI's GIS software permits users to link geographic locations (for example, Middlesex County) with descriptive information such as cancer rates, river sediments, or wildlife migration patterns. The software allows users to merge data into the conceptual layers of a digital map, to create different views of the data, to execute queries like a standard SQL database, and to derive geographic information such as average temperature in town. The software also allows for animation of such maps to represent temporal trends.

Tufts University has licensed the following ESRI software products for use by faculty, staff and students:

  • ArcInfoTM (20 copies)
  • ArcView® GIS for Unix/Windows
  • ArcView Spatial Analyst for Unix/Windows
  • ArcView Network Analyst for Unix/Windows
  • ArcView 3D AnalystTM for Unix/Windows
  • ArcIMS® for Unix/Windows
  • Data Automation Kit (DAKTM) for Windows
  • University Data Package Master LAB KIT (ArcUSATM, ArcWorldTM, ArcSceneTM World Tour, Digital Chart of the World, ESRI® U.S. Street Database)
  • ArcAtlasTM
  • 1-year subscription (commencing June 1, 2001) to ESRI Virtual Campus Subscription
