Microsoft ™ Select Campus Agreement Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What software is covered under the Microsoft Campus Agreement?

A: To view a complete list of software covered under the agreement, visit the Overview page.

Q:
How do I obtain the software covered under the Microsoft Campus Agreement?

A: There are two ways you can obtain the software covered under the
Agreement for use on your Tufts computer. FSPs may download the software from Tufts' LAN. If it's feasible, the LAN will have the latest edition of each software product as well as the previous release. For installation on your work computer, your FSP is also able to obtain the software on CD. Every support organization will have a comprehensive library of available software.

Q:
Will I be able to get Microsoft software for my computer at home?

A: By September, 2003, all employees who are eligible under the MS Campus Agreement will able to download the software onto their home computers. According to the Microsoft, the software may only be used for business purposes, it may only be loaded onto a single home computer or laptop and it must be deleted when/if the employee leaves the university or when/if the MS Campus Agreement is terminated.

Q:
Will I be able to receive support for the software that I use at home.

A: No. The university is not responsible for supporting users who need assistance
with installing or using software on their home computers.

Q: I have an old computer, do I have to upgrade my software and operating system?

A: Under the Campus Agreement you may use any available back version of a Microsoft software. You may also use any available back version of a Windos OS, including Windows 95 and Windows 98, for as long as it is available to you.

Q:
What operating system should I order if I need to buy a new computer?

A: Windows XP is the currently sold and supported windows based operating system. We recommend purchasing the least expensive Windows OS from the computer manufacuturer and upgrading to a supported OS offered in the Campus Agreement when the computer is installed. Typically, Windows ME, which is not supported by the university, is the least expensive operating system to buy for a new computer. For upgrade support, contact your FSP.

Q:
Are clinical faculty included in the Microsoft Campus Agreement?

A: No. Clinical faculty are not included in the Campus Agreement. The Campus Agreement is based on the faculty/staff head-count reflected in IPEDs data. IPEDs data comes from the HR data base. Clinical faculty are not included in the HR data base and were therefore not included in the IPEDs FTE count that is the basis for the Campus Agreement.

Q:
Does the MS Campus Agreement include Macs?

A: Yes. MacIntosh versions of covered software are included in the MS Campus Agreement.

Q:
We have a number of users who require the Multi-Language Pack option with MS Office. How do we get this with the Campus Agreement?

A: The MS Office Multi-Language Pack is included in the MS Campus Agreement. At the present time, we are anticipating that the media may be included in the Comprehensive Kit of Software Media being sent to Tufts some time in July. However, if it is not you will have to order it separately from an authorized Microsoft reseller. If you have any further questions, contact the IT Support Center.

Q:
I am an end-user. What should I do if I encounter installation or support problems that I cannot overcome?

A: Contact your FSP . If your FSP cannot resolve the issues, they will be able to call upon the IT Support Center, TechNet, and Microsoft to assist in resolving the problems.

Q:
I am an FSP. What should I do if I encounter installation or support problems that I cannot overcome?

A: FSPs have several resources at their disposal for installation and support issues. For assistance, contact the IT Support Center, TechNet, or Microsoft.
