Emerald Disk Quota Management
Disk Quota Policy
By default, Emerald accounts are assigned a permanent disk quota of 5000 blocks (five megabytes). You may store your web pages and/or other files and documents on Emerald. However, all files residing within your account count against the 5 MB limit. Members of the faculty or staff may request an additional 5000 blocks (total 10 megabytes), if needed.
Managing Your Disk Quota
Exceeding your disk space allottment will interfere with your ability to create or edit files. Avoid this problem by routinely deleting any obsolete files you may have stored on Emerald. Consider, too, moving any files you wish to retain onto a floppy diskette or your hard drive. Begin your clean-up by deleting files you no longer need. Next, examine the contents of your Emerald "home" directory.
At the emerald prompt, enter: ls -l and press <enter>. This command "lists" your files and the size of each. To view the contents of a particular file use the more command.
At the emerald:~> prompt, type: more "filename"
To delete (remove) an obsolete file, at the emerald:~> prompt, type rm "filename"
Requesting a Disk Quota Increase
Faculty and staff may request an additional 5 MB of disk space. Students, however, are restricted to the default quota. To request an increase to your quota, contact the University IT Support Center at x7-3376 or by email at uitsc@tufts.edu
