About Us - Academic Technology

UIT Academic Technology partners with Tufts academic and professional communities to integrate the best of emerging technologies into teaching, research and learning in ways that are meaningful and that support Tufts University’s goal of relevant innovation. UIT Academic Technology (AT) groups and services include:

  • Educational Technology

    • Educational Technology Consulting Services
      AT assists faculty, staff, and students by providing a broad range of Technology Consultation and Planning services, including Instructional Design and Educational Goals consultations.

    • Faculty Development and Outreach
      Year-long faculty development and outreach is accomplished with programs and publications that include the Summer Institute; the Health Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Mini-Symposiums; the UIT Forum for Teaching, Learning, and Research; the Faculty IT Liaison Program; the UIT Encyclopedia for Teaching with Technology; and the Teaching, Learning, and Research Innovations e-newsletter.

    • Tools for Teaching, Learning, and Collaboration
      A partial list of the tools that have been researched, designed, and developed by AT include Classroom Response Systems (iClickers); the Spark suite of Web 2.0 tools; VUE (Visual Understanding Environment); Web conferencing; and the Tufts Digital Repository & Digital Library services in partnership with Digital Collections & Archives (DCA).   • Research Technology

    • Research Consulting Services
      Research Technology provides statistical consulting assistance to faculty and graduate students for both research technology and instructional projects (see http://uit.tufts.edu/at/?pid=81). They also assist faculty and departments with research, information, and recommendations concerning appropriate technologies.

    • Geographic Information Services
      Research Technology manages Geographic Information Systems (GIS) services across the Tufts campuses, including the GIS Center in the Tisch Library. GIS-related services include GIS training for faculty and students (workshops, courses), assistance with incorporating GIS modules into Tufts’ courses, and individual and project-based research consulting.  AT also provides specialty services such as map design, geo-processing, spatial analysis, application development, data conversion and development, and software licensing.
