About Us - Enterprise Applications

The Enterprise Applications team is comprised of Client Service professionals, experienced in web and application development and support, database administration, project management, Client/Server and mainframe legacy systems management and administration. Working closely with both internal UIT staff and Financial, Advancement, and Business divisions across the university, Enterprise Application staff provide for and support a host of indispensable IT services and resources.

  • Administrative Systems Team (AdminSys)
    Clients of the AdminSys team consist of technical teams within UIT, including the Application Technical Teams, Database Administrators, Computer Operations, and the UIT Support Center (UITSC). In addition, AdminSys evaluates, selects, purchases, implements, and maintains all hardware and systems software related to their supported applications. Supported applications include:

    • SIS mainframe
    • SIS Online
    • DARS
    • ePrint
    • PeopleSoft Financials
    • PeopleSoft Human Resources


  • Database Administration (DBA)
    The Academic Computing DBA team provides the university with reliable, efficient, and timely access to database information with available resources, including creation, availability, recovery, and quality customer support and maintenance for 85+ database systems. A partial list of supported databases includes:

    • University Student Services Databases (SIS, DARS, PowerFaids, Resource25)
    • University Health Services Medical Practice Management and Electronic Records
    • PeopleSoft HR
    • PeopleSoft Finance
    • Advance
    • SEVIS
Examples of UIT internal services and supported databases encompass such diverse systems as Confluence and JIRA, File System Auditor, the Mercury Load Testing System, and content management.


  • Distributed Applications (DistApps)
    Distributed Applications tasks consist of identifying, developing, and implementing new technologies and systems to support University business processes.  The focus includes enhancing the current legacy, Client/Server, and web environments along with developing new web applications to improve processes. In addition to supporting many of our internal UIT groups, this very talented team of developers currently provides services to groups as diverse as Web Communications, the Department of Homeland Security, the Board of Overseers, Public Relations, University Advancement, and Tufts IT organizations, including Grafton IT, Boston’s OIT, and Medford’s ITS.

  • Enterprise Data Warehouse Team (EDW)
    The Enterprise Data Warehouse, which has been designed with the consideration of data integration across multiple administrative systems, maintains a central data repository for all essential Tufts business data. The EDW group also maintains and supports a front end business intelligence which provides a single self-service reporting solution and delivers clean, functional, up-to-date reports securely over the web.

    In addition to the support of internal UIT groups, the EDW team currently provides services to external Tufts groups, including University Bursars Offices, Budget offices, the Gordon Institute, the Residential Life/Housing Office, the Museum School, Public Safety, and many others.   • PeopleSoft Financials Technical Team (FinTech)
    The Financial Technical supports the University’s central administrative financial systems in conjunction with the systems analysis, development, and unit testing of applications in PeopleSoft Financials, including any interfaces into or out of PeopleSoft Financials. They also provide end-users with technical support and subject matter expertise of the PeopleSoft Financials application, including both delivered modules and custom bolt-on applications.

    Additionally, FinTech partners with Facilities on a custom space management system. They also are the primary UIT support group for the Tidal Enterprise Scheduler, Mercury’s Loadrunner, QTP products, and the SallieMae and CashNet third party banking applications, which provide transaction feeds from various sources to the PeopleSoft Financials system


  • PeopleSoft Human Resources Technical Team (HR Tech)
    The PeopleSoft Human Resources Technical group partners very closely with their colleagues in Human Resources to maintain and enhance the PeopleSoft HR application to meet the changing needs of today’s HR professionals and staff.  The team accomplishes this by providing technical and functional support and developing processes that further the mission of Tufts University, UIT and HR and that enhance the employee experience through Self Service applications. 

    The following are examples the many services that the Finance Technical team has helped to enhance:
    • Designed Leave-Track, a module that calculates and stores employee work time data (Vacation, Personal, Sick and Bonus)
    • Annual enhancements to the Open Enrollment benefits tools
    • Developed a process (eSend) to email students, detailing their current weekly earnings deposited into their bank account
    • Developed a number of processes in support of the work study programs at Tufts 
    • ePAF, a module developed by the HR Technical team to simplify the process of student hire, rehire, termination, and pay changes


  • Student Information Systems Technical Team
    The Student Information Systems (SIS) Technical team serves faculty, staff, and students in offices and areas across the University in support of applications such as DARS, PowerFAIDS, NetPartner, and the Student Information System (SIS) mainframe and online systems. With SIS, students can register for courses, view their transcripts, course schedules, and financial information. Faculty members use SIS Web to access their class lists and student information for their advising function. The DARS (Degree Audit Reporting) application is used by the ASE undergraduate community and faculty advisors to provide an immediate analysis of how a student is progressing toward the completion of their degree.

  • University Advancement Technical Team (UA Tech)
    The UA Tech Team provides application-related technical support for the University’s fundraising department, University Advancement (UA). By utilizing applications tools that automate data entry and maintenance tasks, UATech has increased the efficiency and accuracy of University Advancements operational data import and export tasks.

    A partial list of services and resources provided to University Advancement by UA Tech include:

    • Project Management in support of major upgrades, module additions, and modifications
    • Business analysis
    • Full System Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
    • ERP & Web applications (implementation & support)
    • Core technical skills in support of Advancement Technologies: Oracle, SQL, PL/SQL, UNIX
    • Knowledge and support of PowerBuilder
    • Data Integrity
      • Updating Addresses in Advance (new info and standardization)
      • HEP Development update
      • Class loads to OLC (Online Community) site
      • Online Giving site enhancements
