What is Desktop Videoconferencing?

The desktop videoconferencing tool deployed at Tufts is Cisco TelePresence Movi. This tool allows individuals at multiple locations to interact or share applications via simultaneous video and audio transmissions. This brings enhanced benefits to collaboration between you and others at Tufts, as well as with others outside the Tufts community.

When to Use Cisco TelePresence Movi

Use Cisco TelePresence Movi to:

  DVC_what_is001   •  Enjoy the benefits of face-to-face interaction

    •  Share applications, documents, plans, or presentations

    •  Conduct a video conference with another individual

    •  Run ad-hoc or scheduled video conferences for more than 3 individuals.

 


Getting Started

To use Movi for desktop videoconferencing, you'll need:
  • A Cisco TelePresence Movi Account/User ID

    • You can request a Cisco TelePresence Movi Account/User ID from the UIT Client Support Center via email at UITSC@tufts.edu or by calling (617) 627-3376.


  • Movi Version 4.1 (or greater) installed on your computer

    • To check for installation:

      From the Start menu, select Programs and look for Cisco > Cisco TelePresence Movi. If Cisco is not available from your Programs menu, request installation from your departmental IT Support organization .

    • To check the version of an existing Movi installation:

      1. Click the Tools icon. The Settings dialog window will open.


      2. Click to view the About settings. The About settings will be displayed.


      3. Check to see if you are running version 4.1.  If you are running an earlier version, request an upgrade to version 4.1 from your departmental IT Support organization.
