What I do: |
| I am an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Education at Tufts University, and the director of the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT). CELT is a University-wide resource for faculty development and supports faculty in their multiple roles as teachers, researchers, and members of the Tufts community. The Center is a division of the Office of the Provost and works with an advisory committee (The University Committee on Teaching and Faculty Development) comprised of University faculty and administrators from the different schools and representatives from the library and UIT Academic Technology (now Education and Scholarly Technology Services - ESTS.) CELT champions teaching innovation and faculty excellence by offering workshops and seminars on teaching innovation and assessment; individual consultations on teaching and educational research; and professional development opportunities for academic leaders. |
Education & Background: |
| After completing a PhD in cognitive psychology and individual differences, I received postdoctoral training in Robert Sternberg’s lab at the Yale University psychology department, where I then became a research scientist. Gradually my research focused shifted from k-12 education to higher education, and in 2006 I joined the education department at Tufts. |
Professional Interest: |
| I continue to conduct research on how we learn and how this knowledge can be translated into effective teaching and assessment strategies. My latest book is on giftedness and is published by Cambridge University Press. |
