AT - Services - Instructional Design

The instructional design consultation service provides a systematic and systemic approach to researching issues and finding solutions associated with the use of instructional technology in university teaching and learning. By providing a clear framework grounded on research in effective pedagogies and use of media and technology, the instructional design consultation service assists faculty, departments, programs, and schools with an organized approach to class teaching and learning challenges, course design, and curriculum transformation. The service also connects faculty and departments with the appropriate Tufts-supported services and staff that can help bring the service recommendations to fruition.

Instructional Goals Consultation

This level of consultation service is appropriate to individual teaching challenges or questions instructors may have on piloting an instructional strategy utilizing technology or on learning the benefits and advantages of specific technologies for student learning. Through a series of meetings, the instructional designer will provide any or all of the following support: examples of instructional strategies using technology to meet teaching and learning goals; models of implementation and evaluation for these strategies; identification of existing supported technologies at Tufts; and assistance with training and support needs for implementing technology.

It is appropriate for faculty designing new courses, as well as for faculty redesigning existing courses. Through a series of consultation meetings and research, the instructional designer will provide any or all of the following kinds of support: information, examples, research, assistance with grant proposals and a detailed instructional design plan on integrating technology into the course curriculum and using instructional technologies effectively in the classroom.

To request this consultation service, please submit a project proposal, at least one semester before anticipated course implementation.

Curriculum Transformation with Technology (CTT) Consultation

This level of consultation service is the most comprehensive in making available information from research on models and best practices of incorporating instructional technologies into the curriculum to improve student learning and performance. It is particularly valuable for groups of faculty and administrators looking at major or integrated curriculum redesigns to incorporate more active learning, collaboration, and critical thinking activities in a systematic and systemic way utilizing technology and media.

To request this consultation service, please submit a project proposal, one full academic year before anticipated implementation of the curriculum.
