Internet 2
http://www.internet2.edu/
According to the Internet 2 site:
Internet2 is a consortium being led by 200 universities working in partnership with industry and government to develop and deploy advanced network applications and technologies, accelerating the creation of tomorrow's Internet. Internet2 is recreating the partnership among academia, industry and government that fostered today´s Internet in its infancy.
The primary goals of Internet2 are to:
- Create a leading edge network capability for the national research community
- Enable revolutionary Internet applications
- Ensure the rapid transfer of new network services and applications to the broader Internet community.
Because university research and education missions increasingly require the collaboration of personnel and hardware located at campuses throughout the country in ways not possible over today's Internet, Tufts is one of the universities working in Internet2 partnerships to come up with applications that take advantage of the enormous capacity that Internet 2 offers.
AT is working with IT representatives at the different schools to increase the awareness of the application of I2 for teaching and research through community education programs.
AT is interested in hearing from faculty and staff with research needs that might benefit from I2 connectivity. AT can assist faculty in a needs assessment covering issues ranging from application to connectivity issues. For further information, contact: tlr@tufts.edu
