News Archives UIT Announces Volume Purchase of MATLAB Software - MATLAB is a software package used by engineers, economists, mathematicians and scientists to perform a range of technical computing tasks. MATLAB can be used in a variety of application areas, including signal and image processing, control system design, earth and life sciences, finance and economics, and instrumentation. Since a number of University personnel have expressed interest in obtaining copies of MATLAB, UIT and the University support organizations are moving forward with a volume purchase for the MATLAB base product. A volume purchase should enable faculty and staff to acquire the software at lower license costs. The educational list price for the MATLAB base module is $500. The approximate volume license cost will run between $220 and $90, depending on the quantity of licenses ordered. Note that to qualify for academic pricing, MATLAB may only be used in connection with on-campus computing facilities used solely in support of classroom instruction and research activities of students and teaching faculty. The right to use the products for commercial or business purposes is expressly excluded. These licenses will be perpetual. The license price includes the first 12 months of support. After the first year, support may be purchased for 10% of the educational license list price. This purchase does not include any of the MATLAB optional modules, which may be purchased separately as long as the base module is under support. Each campus has a coordinator who will assist with this acquisition. To order one or more copies of the MATLAB 6.5 base product, send a signed IDR to your campus coordinator no later than Monday, December 2, 2002. The IDR should clearly indicate the number of Windows licenses and the number of Macintosh licenses you wish to purchase (please check the Mathworks web site for detailed information on system requirements). The coordinators for the MATLAB purchase are:
Once we determine how many licenses to buy, we will determine the per license price, complete the IDRs and place the order. Your coordinator will notify you as soon as the software is available for installation. More information about the functionality provided by MATLAB can be found at the Mathworks web site. If you have any questions about this purchase, please do not hesitate to contact your campus coordinator or Debbie Nanni at ext. 72889.
