Within his role as Director of Research and Geospatial Technology Services
, Lionel establishes strong and durable relationships with Tufts research and GIS communities in order to plan, develop, manage and expand University-wide technology services and programs in support of research and GIS across all Tufts schools. Lionel leads the monitoring, design, implementation and application of emerging technologies for research and GIS communities. UIT’s centralized research IT core services include high-performance computing, bioinformatics, research software licensing, networked storage, tools for collaboration and communication, tools for visualization, consultations, courses, workshops and events. UIT’s GIS core services consist of the GIS Center, geospatial data acquisitions, GeoData@Tufts portal, consultations, courses, workshops and events.
Before coming to Tufts, Lionel conducted basic research in Neuroscience as an Assistant-Professor of Otology and Laryngology at Harvard Medical School, and Principal Investigator at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. During that period, he also helped teach graduate courses at the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences & Technology in the areas of Sensory-Neural Systems. In 2004, he was named a member of the NASA Sensory Motor Adaptation Review Panel for NASA Research Announcement 04-OBPR-01.
Lionel has a Ph.D. in Image and Signal Processing from Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications in Paris, France and an Engineer in Computer Science, Area of Specialization "Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Sciences", Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications, Paris, France.
